Why you are a monster before coffee
The gap before the first sip is a legally distinct species. We have the field notes.
Between the alarm and the first sip, you are not late, rude, or mysterious. You are a Pre-Coffee Beast: eyes open, soul closed, both paws on a mug that has not yet arrived. CoffeeMonsters did not invent this. Kitchens did.
Caffeine is a stand-in for adenosine. Overnight, adenosine parks in receptors and tells the brain it is tired. A cup does not pour personality back in so much as it boots the parking attendants. Until then, language is a luxury good.
The Espresso Goblin treats this as logistics. A ristretto is small, loud, and fast — a short story instead of a novel. The Beast does not care about extraction yield. The Beast cares that the kettle is slower than time.
Talking before crema settles is how civilisations lose diplomats. Wave if you must. Do not ask how they slept. The comic is three panels because the transformation only needs three beats: hostile silence, hostage sip, cardigan speech.
You are not a morning person or a night person. You are a before-coffee person. The rest is branding.

A shot is a gasp. A mug is a swimming pool. Overcaffeinated does not care which story you meant to read.
